Common name: FLABELLATE GRASSHOPPER.
Size: 18-30 mm.
General distribution: British Columbia to Saskatchewan, Canada; S. to Arizona and Texas.
Distribution in New Mexico: Statewide.
Habitat: Grassland.
Host: Forbs, grasses, some crops.
Adults Present: July-October.
Notes: Male cerci very wide at base; furculae very small; hind tibiae blue; inner hind femora partly orange when fresh; tegmina long. Destructive species, both on range- and cropland.
