Common name: RED-LEGGED GRASSHOPPER.
Size: 19-26 mm.
General distribution: Widespread in the United States and Canada.
Distribution in New Mexico: Statewide.
Habitat: Grassland, lawns, open woods; mostly moist, weedy areas.
Host: Grasses.
Adults Present: July-November.
Notes: Male cerci relatively broad, hooked at apex; furculae long and pointed; supra-anal plate widened just posterior of middle; subgenital plate with broad emargination as seen from rear; color brown to red with darker markings; hind tibiae bright red or blue in blue color morph; tegmina long. Can be a serious pest.
