Common name: THREE-BANDED RANGE GRASSHOPPER.
Size: 26-50 mm.
General distribution: S. central Canada, through central United States, S. to Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas.
Distribution in New Mexico: Statewide except extreme NW.
Habitat: Grassland, mostly gravelly areas.
Host: Dicots, same as for H. magnificus.
Adults Present: June-September.
Notes: Like H. magnificus, but more pale, with only three bands on tegmina; tegmina not spotted at tip. Base of inner hind femora blue. Wings often proportionally shorter. Not economically important.
