Common name: DUSKY GRASSHOPPER.
Size: 16-31 mm.
General distribution: S. central Canada, S. to central Mexico.
Distribution in New Mexico: Bernalillo, Cibola, Colfax, Harding, Lea, Lincoln, Mora, Otero, Rio Arriba, Sandoval, San Miguel, Santa Fe, Socorro, Taos, Torrance, Union, Valencia.
Habitat: Moist areas with rich grass and sedge growth; likes wet pastures, seeps.
Host: Range grasses.
Adults Present: August-October.
Notes: Tegmina with three distinct bands; hind wings with slight darkening toward tips; dark lateral marking on pronotum; hind tibiae blue. Can be a pest on range grasses.
