Common name: TWO-STRIPED GRASSHOPPER.
Size: 26-45 mm.
General distribution: Canada to Mexico, except Florida.
Distribution in New Mexico: Statewide.
Habitat: Grassland, mountains, riparian; mostly in weedy areas.
Host: Various forbs, grasses, and crops, including corn, potatoes, onions, cabbage, and beets; also trees and shrubs.
Adults Present: August-October.
Notes: Easily identified by the brown to green body with a conspicuous stripe on each side, the black streak on the hind femur, and the boot-shaped male cerci. Can be serious pest of crops.
