Size: 28-54 mm.
General distribution: Montana, E. to New Jersey, S. to Florida, and through S. Arizona and S. Mexico.
Distribution in New Mexico: Hidalgo, Sierra, and Union.
Habitat: Grassland.
Host: Some range grasses (Poa, Bromus).
Adults Present: July-November.
Notes: A large, robust, leopard-spotted grasshopper; hind wings yellow to orange or pink to rose-red with dark band and spur. Not economically important.
