Common name: BIG-HEADED GRASSHOPPER
Size: 20-27 mm.
General distribution: SW Canada, through W. United States to S. central Mexico.
Distribution in New Mexico: Statewide.
Habitat: Grassland.
Host: Grasses.
Adults Present: June-August.
Notes: One of two so-called "cross" grasshoppers with cross-like markings on dorsal pronotum. This species differs from A. femoratum in having less distinct bands on hind femora, being slightly larger, and often having a light stripe down the tegmina as seen from above. This species can be very destructive on rangeland.
