Size: 31-46 mm.
General distribution: E. United States, W. to Oklahoma and Texas.
Distribution in New Mexico: No specimens in collections, but may be expected in Union County.
Habitat: Grassland.
Host: Probably grasses.
Adults Present: July-November.
Notes: Broad black band on hind wings; basal area bright yellow to orange. Makes a distinct crackling sound in flight. Not economically important.
