Common name: SPECKLED RANGELAND GRASSHOPPER
Size: 20-35 mm.
General distribution: Alaska, S. to central Mexico, E. to Iowa.
Distribution in New Mexico: Statewide.
Habitat: Sunny undisturbed areas, desert to alpine.
Host: Various grasses and a few forbs.
Adults Present: March to August, mostly April and May.
Notes: Basal area of hind wings yellow, orange, or pink with prominent black band; spur toward body; tegmina unmarked. Makes a distinct crackling sound in flight. Not economically important.
