Ageneotettix deorum, the whitewhiskered grasshopper, is found
widely in Wyoming rangelands, but is most common in the shortgrass and
mixedgrass prairies of eastern Wyoming. The eggs overwinter in the soil
and hatch in late May or early June. Adults are found in July, August,
and early September. It feeds on many species of grasses and sedges, and
where this species is abundant it causes extensive damgae to rangeland
forage. Control measures are often necessary when this species reaches
high densities.
